The Falmouth School Committee on April 14 approved a field trip for the district robotics team to attend district competition in Springfield April 15–18 and authorized staff to proceed with plans for a possible Worlds trip if the team advances.
A presenter said the team — in only its second season — had qualified for districts, ranking seventh in Massachusetts and 17th in New England. Because the district competition began the day after the meeting, the committee moved quickly to vote so students could travel as scheduled. The presenter noted that if the team progresses to Worlds in Texas later in April the projected additional cost would be about $6,000 for admission and $13,000 for lodging and food, though travel details were not yet booked.
Committee members praised the students. One member asked about discrepancies in the cost figures on the submitted forms; staff clarified the zero figure on one form reflects that travel arrangements for Worlds are not yet booked, while the projection for a Worlds trip was estimated at $6,000 (admissions) plus $13,000 (lodging/food) if needed.
The committee approved the trip and expressed congratulations to the team; staff will finalize logistics and communicate details to families.
