Piedmont honors retiring educators and recognizes bus driver for student safety

The Piedmont Board of Education set aside time to recognize retiring staff and to honor a bus driver whose actions protected students.
The board recognized Denise Reese, who served as district EL coordinator and supported students in earning the Seal of Biliteracy; Denise thanked colleagues and family. Kathy Adams, a longtime Piedmont educator and counselor at Piedmont Elementary, was honored for decades of service; she told the board she had taught 37 years. Cathy Needham, a kindergarten teacher at the Early Childhood Center (nicknamed Mrs. Nieto by students) was recognized for 31 years in Piedmont; multiple colleagues, parents and the principal, Jenny Jewel, offered remembrances.
Separately, staff recounted an April 1 incident in which a student was injured during an afternoon bus route. Mr. Dale Marshall, the bus driver on duty, immediately alerted emergency services, tended to the wound and kept students calm; the board presented him with a Student Safety Hero Award.
Board members applauded the retirees and thanked school staff for their long service.
