SPCSA approves Nevada State High School cap consolidation; Meadow Wood campus to close at end of 2026–27

The State Public Charter School Authority on Tuesday approved two separate actions involving Nevada State High School: a network-wide consolidation and reduction of enrollment caps for its satellite campuses, and acceptance of a voluntary surrender of the Meadow Wood campus charter with an appointment of a closing administrator.
Danny Peltier presented an amendment request from Nevada State High School to combine enrollment caps across eight satellite campuses and reduce the overall cap through SYE 2029. Peltier said the school had 769 students enrolled across those campuses as of the 2025 validation date and that unpredictable enrollment at each satellite location makes a single network cap more administratively practical. SPCSA staff supported the request, and the board approved the proposed motion; Member Shante Rosales moved and Member Adus seconded.
Separately, Peltier reported that the Nevada State High School Meadow Wood governing board voted on April 2 to voluntarily surrender that campus’s charter and close the Meadow Wood campus at the conclusion of the 2026–27 school year. The Meadow Wood board appointed Melissa McCormick, the flagship campus’s executive officer, as the closing administrator pending SPCSA approval. SPCSA staff recommended the appointment; Member Aldaba moved to accept the governing board’s action and approve McCormick as closing administrator, Member Adus seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
SPCSA staff noted that although Meadow Wood has shown strong academic, organizational and financial performance, the campus struggled with low enrollment and operational separation from larger flagship campuses, factors the Meadow Wood governing board cited in its decision to close. Staff said the closing administrator must present a written closure plan under NRS 388A.306; the included closure materials were in the board packet.
Action taken: approval of a motion to combine and reduce Nevada State High School’s satellite-campus enrollment caps and acceptance of the Meadow Wood voluntary surrender; appointments of closing administrators were recommended for Meadow Wood (Melissa McCormick).
