Nevada Youth Legislature seeks member input for annual report; chair drafts document for May 30 submission

Senator Wiener briefed the Nevada Youth Legislature on the content and purpose of the annual report that will be transmitted to the governor, the Corporation for Public Benefit board and a legislative committee. The report is intended to chronicle the first year of the two-year term and provide decision-makers a snapshot of the program's trainings, activities and lessons learned.

Members asked whether the report could include candid observations and operational shortfalls. Senator Wiener and Legislative Counsel Bureau staff said the chair drafts the report but the body's input is essential; members were told to submit ideas and written feedback to the chair and that a survey and a virtual conversation would be scheduled to collect structured input. Staff emphasized the May 30 transmission timeline and that content gathered during the virtual conversation may be included at the chair's discretion.

The staff explained how content from previous reports and direct submissions can be incorporated, and that by submitting comments or reports members give permission for those materials to be used in official communications. The process aims to capture training evaluations, testimonies and examples of member learning month by month to inform the governor and legislators in 2027.

Chair Song and staff encouraged broad participation in the pre-report survey and the virtual conversation to ensure the report reflects a variety of perspectives across northern and southern membership. The body will finalize a draft for the chair to transmit by the end of May.
