Band parents offer 44-foot trailer valued at $99,590 to Council Rock SD

Chair Linda Stone opened the finance committee meeting and introduced a proposed gift from Council Rock High School North band parents: a 44-foot gooseneck triple trailer valued at $99,590.25. Administration said board approval is required for gifts over $5,000 under board policy 702 (gifts, grants and donations).

Bonnie True, president of the band association, described the band's recent competitive success and the trailer's purpose: "We ended up winning the national division 2A US Bands championship," she said, adding that the trailer's interior is configured to secure drums, keyboards and props and will reduce equipment damage and volunteer strain. Tim Graham, vice president of the band association, said the trailer will keep instruments "safe and sound" and make long-distance transport easier.

District staff noted donated items become district property and discussed logistics: the district must provide a licensed district driver and storage, and any exterior artwork or logos would be subject to administrative review. Administrators said the band association's funds for the trailer came from a long-standing investment account and community fundraising.

Board members asked about fundraising timelines and storage. Parents said the account grew over many years and was supplemented by recurring fundraisers; staff said they believe storage can be found at the high school and that the district would follow its established procedures for accepting and registering donated equipment.

The item was presented for the board's approval; the meeting transcript records discussion and questions but does not record a formal vote in the finance committee session.
