Trousdale County board says elementary roof prioritized; Fieldhouse restroom repairs will follow

The Trousdale County School Board told concerned residents that permanent restroom repairs at the school Fieldhouse will follow completion of an elementary-school roof project and required planning steps.
A board speaker said the board and the County Commission partnered to borrow $1.9 million to address capital needs and that county funds were directed first to an elementary-school roof "because that affects more of the children than the football field." The speaker said bids for the Fieldhouse work have arrived and are valid for 75 days while the board and its attorney review options for renovating existing restrooms or demolishing and rebuilding them.
The speaker described a technical constraint: the Fieldhouse sits in a flood plain, which limits changing the building footprint and will require design work and fire-marshal review before construction can begin. "We have to have drawings, we have to have this, we have to have that," the speaker said, adding that the process of permitting and bidding slows the timeline.
Responding to public criticism that restroom work was delayed, the speaker said, "the bathrooms are going to be fixed, period," but acknowledged a multi-step timeline and said the district may rely on portable toilets ("Porter Johns") for some or all of the coming year while permanent work proceeds.

The board took no formal vote at the meeting to authorize construction; members said they expect more detailed cost estimates and floor plans at the next meeting in August before making a final decision.
