Calabasas honors volunteers and declares July Parks & Recreation Month

The Calabasas City Council opened its June 11 meeting with community recognition and a proclamation for Parks and Recreation Month.
Nicole McNeel of the California Parks and Recreation Society presented the Champion of the Community Award to the volunteer-run Caring Calabasas Club, led by Mrs. Carol Davis, noting the organization's volunteer service to seniors, children and local nonprofits. The council and staff applauded the club's pandemic-era founding and large volunteer reach. Council members individually thanked volunteers and the community services staff who support programming.
Community Services Director Erica Green then read a proclamation recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month and summarized the department's recent accomplishments: playground renovations, Wild Walnut Park construction, the community center reopening and more than 55 events in 52 weeks. The council offered unanimous congratulations; no public comment opposed the proclamations.
The city presented photos and brief remarks and invited award recipients for a group photo; the council then moved to the regular agenda.
