Sheriff reports April spike in residential burglaries; deputies urge summer precautions

The deputy said three of the residential burglaries occurred in Calabasas Park and others were scattered through Park Estates, Greater Mullwood, The Oaks and Calabasas Hills. He reported that police believe at least one person responsible for the Calabasas Hills burglaries was arrested by LAPD on May 19 after an attempted burglary in North Hills; the detective bureau is coordinating recovery of stolen property.
Other figures: the deputy reported nine petty thefts and five grand thefts in April and two aggravated assaults, one involving a domestic-violence incident. He noted some incidents appear on the stat sheet even when subsequent investigation finds no evidence, such as an alleged juvenile firearm incident that the department's juvenile team concluded lacked supporting evidence.
Council reaction and safety guidance: Council members thanked the deputies, asked for restoration of detective-case follow-up language in monthly reports, and asked for public tips for summertime precautions. The deputy urged residents to secure property when traveling and to call 911 for unsafe or reckless driving. He also advised parents that many electric motorcycles are not legal on public roads and that minors cannot lawfully operate motor vehicles without a license.
What council noted: Several council members emphasized the burglary trend and asked colleagues to consider those statistics when evaluating sheriff-service levels in upcoming budget discussions. No formal action on sheriff staffing or contracts was taken at the meeting.
