School board approves disciplinary hearing authority, elects officers; fieldhouse plan heads to Planning Commission

The Trousdale County Board of Education unanimously approved a recommendation to establish a disciplinary hearing authority (DHA) panel for the 2024–25 school year, the board heard at its regular meeting.
Dr. Saffield, the district director, described the DHA recommendation as a standing pool of administrators who would serve on disciplinary hearings. The director said the policy requires at least five recommended members on the pool and that any particular hearing would convene with a minimum of three panelists. "My recommendation is to approve these one two three four five six persons," Dr. Saffield said, and Miss Petty moved to approve the recommendation; Miss Bodie seconded the motion. The board approved the DHA by voice vote.
The board also conducted officer elections for the 2024–25 year. A chairperson was nominated and elected by acclamation. Miss Petty was approved as vice chairman by motion and second; members also discussed delegate representation for the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) convention and said delegates would decide on matters at the assembly.
On facilities and capital projects, the director reported the district had signed a contract with FTM for a new fieldhouse but still needed Planning Commission site approval; the director said the site plan is scheduled for the Planning Commission’s October 14 meeting and that once the site plan is approved the contract completion clock will begin. The board also discussed restroom renovations and said a Planning Commission variance had been obtained to reduce fixture requirements for that project.
