Salisbury Township School District officials told the operations and finance committee on April 15 that the administration building’s front parking lot needs to be torn up, regraded and tied into the building entrance to eliminate persistent ponding that freezes in winter.
Bill, the district’s facilities representative, told the committee the scope will require removing the existing asphalt, re‑establishing elevations, and raising concrete adjacent to the steps so water drains away from pedestrian paths. He said, “the actual uh parking lot work is 67,360,” and that the additional concrete and stair adjustment was discussed at roughly 4,200–4,300, bringing the total discussed to approximately $72,000.
District staff and CHA representatives said the pooling creates a public‑safety hazard when it freezes and slows circulation through the lunch line at the elementary school; staff described one serving line well where wiring is beyond repair. The presenters recommended doing the work while other summer projects are under way to avoid duplicate mobilization costs and to reduce overall disruption.
Administrators said the extra money would likely come from the district’s fund balance; some other asphalt and concrete work is expected to be covered by recent land‑sale proceeds and contingency funds. Committee members clarified that while the project team intends to attach the work to the existing Barker & Barker bid, a change to the contract amount will require full board approval. Mr. Gol asked for updated documentation and a revised contract amount to circulate prior to the vote; staff said they will provide draft documents so the board can act at next week’s meeting.
What happens next: staff will draft and circulate the contract change and cost documentation for board review; the board is scheduled to consider the contractual change at the next meeting. The district did not vote at the committee meeting and will seek formal approval at the full‑board meeting.
