Township issues health and education proclamations, honors national SkillsUSA winners

Hillsborough recognized National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Down Syndrome Acceptance Month, Respect for Life observances, and commended three local students who won national SkillsUSA awards; the mayor also received a congressional certificate of recognition.
At its Sept. 25 meeting, the Hillsborough Township Committee issued several proclamations and recognitions, and highlighted community events and award-winning students.
The committee proclaimed October 2025 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and recognized Dance for the Cure co-founders Kathleen Cerrioli and Joanne Liskovitz; the proclamation recited National Cancer Institute estimates that more than 316,950 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year in the U.S.
Officials next declared October as National Down Syndrome Acceptance Month and heard from Dr. Lori Ramali, who identified herself as the newly formed executive director of Gigi’s Playhouse Hillsborough and described the organization’s free services for people with Down syndrome. "I've been involved with nonprofits for 30 years...this is near and dear to my heart," she said.
The committee also read a letter from Monsignor Joe Curry of Mary, Mother of God Church in connection with a Respect for Life proclamation, and presented proclamations honoring three students who earned gold medals at the national SkillsUSA competition: Nor Vant (American Spirit), Vedant Ravi (health knowledge bowl) and Viva/Vibav Vujini (chapter business procedures). Family and school representatives accepted the honors.
JD Brighten from Congressman Kian's office presented a congressional certificate of recognition to Mayor Cherelli for local programs including a walk-in-the-park initiative; the mayor accepted the certificate.
Township leaders additionally announced community events and resources: a well-water testing event Oct. 4, early voting at the municipal building Oct. 25–Nov. 2, a DEA Takeback Day collection on Oct. 25, Coffee with the Cops on Oct. 2, and a veterans information session on Nov. 15.
