Rep. French Hill, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said he was surprised by the resignation of a top counterterrorism official, Joe Kent, who stepped down over the Iran war.
Hill said he read Director Kent’s resignation letter and understood that Kent and some others have concerns about the scale of the war. “I was surprised by it,” Hill said. He added that the administration and allies have treated Iran as a long-running regional and international threat and said the long-term goal remains neutralizing Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile capabilities.
Hill framed the policy objective as protecting both the homeland and regional partners and cited recent commentary from the United Arab Emirates in support of the same key goals. He described those aims as: neutering Iran’s nuclear ambitions, curbing its ballistic missile threat and hindering its ability to export terrorism through proxy groups.
Hill did not describe any planned congressional action in response to the resignation during the interview. The segment ended with hosts thanking him and inviting him to return as the housing legislative process progresses.
