Todd Broman of the Small Business Administration’s Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience briefed the council on financial assistance available after the December storms and the recent FEMA disaster declaration.
Broman said FEMA’s April 7 disaster declaration extended deadlines: homeowners who suffered physical damage can apply through June 10, and business owners seeking cash‑flow assistance may apply through Jan. 7, 2027. SBA disaster loans are intended to help homeowners and businesses recover from physical damage and working‑capital shortfalls; business owners can apply for loans up to $2 million, while homeowners may seek up to $500,000 for property repair. Staff noted homeowner loan rates can be as low as 2.875% over 30 years, with no application or closing fees.
Broman encouraged local businesses and homeowners to apply via sba.gov/disaster or the SBA toll‑free number (800‑659‑2955 as provided) and said SBA staff would be available locally through April 24 and possibly longer now that FEMA has acted.
Council members thanked the presenter and asked staff to circulate the fact sheet and application information to the city and Chamber of Commerce.
