Parent urges Mechanicsburg board to include weighted GPA on official transcripts

At the Nov. 11 meeting Donna Maul of Upper Allen Township, a parent of three district students, asked the Mechanicsburg Area School District board to include weighted grade-point average on official transcripts rather than leaving students to calculate or self-report it.
Maul said reporting weighted GPA on transcripts promotes transparency and consistency, reduces errors and helps college and scholarship offices evaluate the rigor of a student’s coursework. She said nearby districts including Camp Hill and others already include weighted GPA and asked the board to consider a formal policy change; she told board members she would follow up in a meeting with the superintendent and submit a written request to put the issue on a future agenda.
Board members thanked Maul for raising the issue; administrators indicated the parent would meet with district staff and that the board would receive a report back if Maul’s request is formally submitted.
The request was offered during the second public-comment period; no board action was taken at the Nov. 11 meeting.
