Tehachapi Unified trustees vote 5-0 to expel student through Feb. 19, 2027

The Tehachapi Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously April 16 to expel the student identified in case 2025-2026 #2, ordering the expulsion effective April 16, 2026, through Feb. 19, 2027.

The action was announced after the board recessed into closed session at 11:03 a.m. for a hearing to consider expulsion under Education Code sections 48917 and 48918. The board returned to open session at 12:34 p.m. to report the decision. Trustee Napier moved to expel the student; Trustee Christensen seconded the motion. The clerk recorded a roll-call vote with Vice President Kelly, Clerk Wood, Trustee Cooper, Trustee Christensen and Trustee Napier voting yes. President Kaminsky and Trustee Sweeney were noted as absent; the motion passed 5-0.

Board members read and recorded the finding and order following the closed-session review of the evidence. The superintendent was listed as present during the meeting; no members of the public spoke during the public-comment period. The board also noted that a closed-session item concerning the superintendent’s performance evaluation under Government Code section 54957 was on the agenda, but the public report-out was limited to the expulsion action.

The meeting adjourned at 12:36 p.m. The board did not announce additional public steps or appeal deadlines in the open-session report-out.
