The Legislative and Policy committee on April 6 advanced several policy and regulation updates affecting emergency response, school security, social media governance and student athletics.
Revisions to policy 805 (emergency preparedness) and its attachment reflect state amendments requiring school entities to provide final dispositions within specified time frames for Safe2Say reports; the committee approved the updated attachment. Policy 805.1 (relations with law enforcement) was amended to require formalized coordination between the district threat‑assessment team and local law enforcement agencies; the committee moved that policy to the full board.
Policy 805.2 was revised to expand the responsibilities and training requirements for the school safety and security coordinator and to specify that the district shall employ or contract with at least one full‑time security person who has completed required training. The committee sent the revision to the full board for first reading and asked administration to provide a timeline for any additional training requirements.
The board also reviewed a new social media policy (910.1) adapted from PSBA guidance. The policy requires an inventory of district‑sanctioned social accounts, consistent administrative access, content standards aligned to the district’s mission, and removal of prohibited content. Administration said the policy clarifies expectations for building accounts, athletics and clubs and will be communicated to staff and advisors; the committee moved the policy to the full board for first reading.
Finally, the committee advanced a proposed revision to Regulation 123A (intercollegiate/interscholastic student eligibility) to remove a unique district rule that had required students to pass a physical education class in order to participate in athletics; administrators said the district is the only one in the county that retained that requirement and recommended removal.
Each item was moved forward to the full board (or approved in the case of the 805 attachment) for formal action at upcoming meetings.
