Board advances interior/office suites bids for summer projects; electrical package to be rebid

The Owen J. Roberts finance, building and grounds committee moved several prime‑contract award recommendations for high‑school and middle‑school interior and office suite work to the full board for approval on April 13 and discussed project phasing and optional off‑ramps.

Administration and consultants said low bids were received for general, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC and sprinkler/fire‑protection packages, forming a roughly $2 million summer project package. No electrical bids were received by bid day; Scanska’s pre‑construction team reported continuing outreach and estimated the electrical contract will likely be under $200,000 if rebid with more lead time.

Consultants urged that moving selected interior work into this summer’s schedule reduces permit and phasing conflicts and helps avoid interrupting athletic fields and other later phases. Board members noted the item is partly discretionary and asked administration to prepare an analysis of the impact if the board postponed the work to a later capital phase as a potential cost‑saving off‑ramp.

The committee moved the bid awards to the full board for April 13 and asked administration and Scanska to return with the rebid electrical package and with materials that show the programmatic impact of delaying the work.
