Ringwood official says wildfire emergency is easing; New York park ranger killed fighting blaze

"As we are nearing the end of the wildfire emergency here in Ringwood, I wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge our community," the Agency official said, praising local police, fire and EMS personnel for their response.
The official said there were no structures damaged. "There were four to six fire apparatus from other municipalities who came to Ringwood to provide structure protection as a precaution during the height of the fire," the official said, adding that crews from across New Jersey assisted.
The official credited the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for its work and said crews from around the state helped keep Ringwood safe.
The update included a fatality: "Unfortunately a park ranger from New York lost his life while working at the fire," the Agency official said, offering thoughts and prayers to the ranger's family and siblings.
Residents were told they may continue to see or smell smoke through Tuesday. The official said the Forest Fire Service will continue to monitor affected areas, extinguish hotspots and that New Jersey resources are assisting New York crews to bring the fire into full containment.
The Agency official said further information will be shared via reverse 911 and social media.
The statement closed with thanks to the community for its support during the emergency.
