Hashler recounted that the town, formerly called Hot Springs, accepted a 1950 dare from radio host Ralph Edwards to change its name to Truth or Consequences. "We're the only town in the nation that changed its name on a dare," Hashler said.
The mayor encouraged visitors to attend the Fiesta, saying thousands are expected. He noted longtime local businesses such as Los Arcos and mentioned a band called Metali that the mayor described as combining heavy metal and mariachi elements.
The mayor welcomed the publicity and invited the reporter and others to return for the event; no ticketing, parade routes or detailed schedules were provided in the interview.
