Board approves donation for inclusive playground at Rayburn Elementary

The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees voted April 14 to accept a $20,000 donation to Rayburn Elementary to purchase an OmniSpinner inclusive play piece.
Janette Nino, associate superintendent for instructional leadership, described the gift and introduced National Honor Society students who led a presentation describing equity‑focused playground goals. "We want to provide a play space for everyone to play including kids with different abilities," NHS president Chanel Partida told trustees during the student presentation.
Administration recommended accepting the donation from Capable Kids, The Wonderful Company and ExerPlay, and Trustee Robert J. Carrion moved to approve. The motion was seconded by Trustee de la Garza Lopez and passed unanimously, 5‑0. Board members congratulated the students for their leadership and research in securing partners and funding.
