Jerry Brewer, Special Projects Manager, and Detentions Division Chief Zach Ottoame told the board the award — if approved — would cover 60% of salary and benefits for one full‑time court security deputy and provide funding for two part‑time court deputies. Brewer said the county currently pays 100% of the positions and the grant would reduce that burden; the application was due April 16, 2026. He added the grant requires written approval from the sheriff and the chief judge, both of which had been obtained for the application.
Commissioners moved, included the specific amount in the motion ($95,626.80), and adopted the resolution authorizing submission and delegating acceptance of funds to the county manager. The vote was 3–0.
Brewer noted the county's ranking at program review was a three on a scale of one to four, which he said was "noted as being a higher priority" and could favor funding decisions.
