Commission forwards FY25–26 environmental grant recommendations to city manager

Staff described a set of varied grant proposals the committee reviewed; commissioners praised the range of applicants and said the proposals aligned with the commission’s values and community engagement goals. Commissioners singled out a proposed city‑run tree farm at the municipal golf course as an especially promising project.
Elise Crane, president of the San Garden Club, said the club—founded nearly 75 years and with about 220 members—has partnered with the city on tree plantings and requested the commission support the club’s match to get the tree farm started. Amanda Cantinia, speaking during public comment, also praised staff and city leaders for advancing the tree‑farm concept and recounted the motivation after the loss of a large tree at Max Plaza Park.
Commissioner McCann moved to forward the recommended grant list to the city manager for review and approval; Commissioner Hoskins seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Staff said the city manager will make the final funding decision and oversee grant administration under standard city grant procedures.
