Committee forwards multiple event permits and parking requests to full council
Summary

At its April 14 meeting the ordinance/intergovernmental/elections subcommittee advanced a large block of event permits and parking requests to the full council and to city departments for engineering review.
Events advanced with favorable recommendations to full council included a Jamada community event (June 6; September 19), a Day of Bible celebration (Sept. 26) subject to police coordination for flag-raising logistics, Lawrence Community Works’ June 6 youth tournament and par de barrio resource fair, the Bohemia/"Bohemia Sunset" Thursday-night series (June 18–Sept. 10), and a Greater Lawrence Family Health Center community health fair scheduled for May 29 at the Common. Presenters described partnerships with recreation and police departments; panelists emphasized safety planning and neighborhood notice for amplified sound.
The committee also considered a block of handicap-parking petitions for addresses including 214 Farnum St., 83 Bennington St., 136 Bowden St. and 177 Garden St. The police department reported favorable recommendations for several addresses and asked for contact information for one request (177 Garden St.) before proceeding. Several residential and childcare parking restriction proposals were deferred to the Department of Public Works and city engineer for traffic-engineering review.
What’s next: The advanced permits and parking items will appear on the full-council agenda for public hearing or final action; staff will coordinate required police-department support documents and traffic-engineering analyses where requested.
