FBI praised for outreach at Anchorage School District freshman career expo

Amy Peters, an academy coach with the Anchorage School District, opened remarks at a freshman career expo by recognizing the FBI Anchorage Field Office for its participation in the event and its broader outreach to students.

Chloe Martin, the FBI’s public affairs officer for the Anchorage Field Office, told attendees the FBI "is a national security organization with both intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities" and said agency engagement with students aims to "inspire some of these students to maybe one day consider being part of that global public safety and national security mission." She added that such careers can be pursued "right here in Alaska in their home state."

Martin emphasized that the FBI values diverse backgrounds and life experience, saying those perspectives "make their organization better." She described the agency’s booths as intended to be "engaging, approachable, and informative," noting the use of flyers, staff at the booth and some gear to illustrate career roles. Martin highlighted other outreach with the school district, including classroom visits by an analyst and a recent panel of women working in cybersecurity at West High School.

The remarks outlined outreach as part of a broader effort to show students a range of career pathways in public safety and intelligence, and to signal that nontraditional educational or professional backgrounds are of interest to the agency. No motions, votes or formal actions were recorded during these remarks.
