Chamber backs Main Street parking purchase to clear barrier for incoming brewery lease

Kristen Weiss, representing the Daytona Regional Chamber, told the board the chamber produced a letter supporting the city's plan to acquire land on Main Street to provide parking needed for a brewery tenant. "The chamber did a letter support of the main street project," Weiss said, adding the chamber will speak in favor when the item returns to the commission.
Weiss and other members described the lot as having roughly 80 to 100 spaces and said the parking is needed for a project across the street in the Corbin building; the incoming brewery (from South Carolina) requires a guaranteed number of spaces before signing a lease. "The existing parking lot will serve that role and enable them to sign that lease," Weiss said.
Board members asked clarifying questions about what the purchase covers and whether improvements or other plans exist for the current building; staff said options are under consideration. The exchange also named the nearby Cruis & Cafe as a geographic reference point for the lot.
No formal vote or contract award occurred during the meeting; the chamber said it will appear to advocate support when the commission considers the purchase in the future.
