The Franklin Board of Education formally recognized board member Linda Wakowski for 18 years of service at its April 15 meeting. Board colleagues recounted Wakowski's roles as vice president, clerk and treasurer at various times and credited her leadership on district improvements and state and national school-board activity.
A fellow board member described shared history and growth in mutual respect: "What became clear meeting after meeting, decision after decision, was that Linda was never driven by ego or personal gain. She was driven by conviction," the speaker said, noting Wakowski's persistence through personal and political challenges. The speaker added that through time their relationship moved from disagreement to friendship.
Wakowski thanked colleagues and said her service was motivated by community commitment and public service. She said she plans to remain engaged in district and community activities after leaving the board.
Board members and administrators offered applause and presented a cake and other tokens of appreciation. The board then moved on to regular business.
