Board members and staff reviewed recent events and ongoing park projects.
Staff said the Gateway to the Globe event drew about 2,200 attendees and that roughly 30% of attendees were Farmers Branch residents. "There were 2200 attendees," one board member reported, and staff noted the most common negative feedback across recent events was parking and shuttle capacity for attendees traveling to the historical park. Board members urged staff to address shuttle/parking logistics ahead of large upcoming events such as July 4 and the city's Christmas programming.
Parks staff provided construction and planting updates: most of the sod at Dutch Village has been laid but deliveries were delayed; crews were installing plants at Boat Brook and additional sod was expected the week following the meeting, weather permitting. Staff said they plan to replant parts of the Rose Garden with perennial species, fountain grasses and Texas native seed rows to reduce annual replanting and to introduce interpretive signage so visitors can identify plant varieties.
Board members and staff discussed playground themes (including potential pirate- or farm-themed equipment for Mercer Park and Dutch Village) and touched on maintenance concerns such as irrigation and budget constraints. Staff said they will prioritize perennial plantings where budgets and nursery availability allow and will continue filling plantings over time as stock becomes available.
The board also discussed member recruitment and event advertising; some residents reported they had not seen event promotions despite staff efforts on social media and signage. The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn was moved, seconded and approved.
