Laguna Grande JPA finalizes plans for April 19 50th‑anniversary celebration

The event is intended as a multi‑jurisdictional public festival with Seaside, Monterey and the park district providing booths and programming. "The event Sunday the 19th [is] from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Laguna Grande Park," Dan said during the presentation, noting the city has worked with park district staff and partner nonprofits to finalize logistics, marketing and a revised event logo.
The park’s calendar of activities will include two scheduled guided walks — a bird walk hosted by the Ottabbon Society at 10:15 a.m. and a park‑staff nature walk at 11 a.m. — along with family attractions such as bounce houses and a food truck. Organizers said promotional swag (hats, cookies with the logo and other items) will be distributed free on a first‑come, first‑served basis; board members and elected officials will be given items for appearances.
During public comment, residents urged broader outreach and accessibility. Diane Nielsen suggested placing the event on local media calendars such as KSBW and asked that materials and outreach include Spanish‑language stations and translations. "Do we have everything in Spanish as well?" Nielsen asked; Dan replied that flyers have been produced in English and Spanish and that Sustainable Seaside issued bilingual press materials.
Residents also asked that staff sweep the park the morning of the event to clear any campers or debris. Dan said city crews maintain a practice of sweeping event lawns prior to public events and that crews or on‑call contractors are available when resources permit. He also reminded the public that a final planning meeting is scheduled for Thursday to refine timing and assignments.
