The Catalina Foothills Unified School District governing board opened its March 3 meeting with a series of recognitions for students and staff.
Superintendent Dr. Denise Bartlett announced five CFHS students advanced from National Merit semifinalists to finalists and congratulated five students selected to the 2026 Allstate Guitar Ensemble, citing teacher Jeff Good. She highlighted 87 high-school students selected to regional honors ensembles, multiple Pioneer Robotics awards including advancement to the state championship and a Connect Award, and statewide honors for the district chess program and CLTA Arizona Chinese speech contest finalists. Dr. Bartlett also noted three Sunrise Drive students published a book as part of a Girl Scout project and will share it at a school event.
Board members Jaclyn Dvali and Tom Lok presented the district’s "super volunteer" award to Becky Johnson for sustained volunteer leadership supporting the high-school band program — organizing volunteers, chaperoning trips, serving as band-camp liaison and designing large show props. Band director Renee Shane Boyd and others praised Johnson’s problem-solving and support for students. The district acknowledged high-school principal Dr. Chris Lambert in the room and invited award photos.
Board members and the superintendent said the recognitions will be listed in the board minutes and the district will publish the full lists in the board packet and follow-up materials.
