The Whitefish Planning Commission on April 16 approved several variances affecting retaining walls, setbacks and accessory structures and forwarded a conditional-use permit for city council review.
The commission approved WZV26-04, a variance for the Adams Family Trust at 246 North Prairie Smoke Circle to add a roughly 42-foot retaining wall and terraced planting area intended to provide year-one screening between neighboring homes. Staff planner Wendy said the proposed wall "is about 42 feet long" and argued underground utilities prevent planting at grade, making the terrace the practical way to achieve screening; staff recommended approval. Applicant representative Alex Thompson of Whitecloud Design answered questions from the commission; no public opposition was recorded. The motion passed unanimously with two conditions of approval.
