Lee County highlights testing preparations, student athletics and staff honors

School district staff told the Lee County Board of Education on April 11 that campuses are prepared for the Georgia Milestones assessments and described training and logistics to support testing, while the board paused its business agenda to recognize athletic and staff achievements.
Katie Pepper, senior director of elementary leadership and learning, outlined the Georgia Milestones Assessment System as the district uses it to evaluate preparation in core subjects and to inform instruction. Pepper said test coordinator training started at the beginning of the school year and that testing rooms, proctors and technology supports are in place; preliminary scores are typically received within two weeks of assessments. "We appreciate the collaboration between the schools and all departments to ensure a smooth testing season," she said.
The board also recognized the Lee County Trojan boys basketball team for a 26–5 season and a 5A GHSA Final Four appearance, and the football team for a 13–1 season and a region championship. Coaches and student leaders were invited forward and given board acknowledgment.
In a staff recognition, district teacher of the year Tracy Woodcock was honored; the superintendent noted she is one of the Georgia Department of Education's top‑10 finalists for Teacher of the Year.
The superintendent additionally provided routine updates about maintenance work (fencing, painting, AC filter changes and grounds upkeep) and reported March collections and activity; more detailed budget projections will be finalized after the state sends allotment sheets. The board will hold budget hearings after the May meeting and intends to adopt the final budget in June.
