County staff described the proposed purchases — drawstring bags, tents (one-time purchase), flags and other outreach materials — and noted administrative limitations on how opioid-settlement money may be used. "We get money from the opioid foundation... but to spend it is almost totally ridiculous. You call Des Moines and ask them, they'll say, well, if you get the okay from your county attorney or the supervisor and your auditor, you can do what you want," a supervisor said, describing the administrative steps.
A motion to authorize up to $3,200 for community outreach items was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said the county budget for opioid-related outreach remains well under the authorized level for the fiscal year.
