District adopts updated curriculum maps for FCS and BCIT to emphasize career relevance

For BCIT the maps emphasize systems thinking, data literacy and ethical/legal frameworks.
Examples: Clever gave classroom examples intended to show results in student work: an advanced foods course that will offer a ServeSafe food‑handler credential; a seventh‑grade interdisciplinary project on pollinators that combines FCS, BCIT and tech coursework; and an accounting simulation in which students act as auditors to reconcile a company’s records.
Why it matters: Administrators said the maps aim to increase rigor, career relevance and clarity for teachers and students so coursework yields tangible credentials and transferable skills. The board thanked staff for the work; the maps will be used by teachers as they plan instruction and assess program needs.
