Board committee advances bids for track, sewer and rooftop units to board for approval

At its March 24 meetings the Finance & Facilities Committee reviewed several capital project bid results and agreed to move the recommendations to the full school board for formal approval. The projects included: a refurbishment of the Mechanicsburg Middle School walking track (low bid: Macmore Construction) to widen and improve the existing surface for regular activity; a Broad Street Kitchen sewer tie‑in (low bid: Triad Excavating), which follows last year’s emergency main replacement and includes engineering/professional services from Barry Isett estimated at $149,900; and the Upper Allen rooftop unit (RTU) replacement (low bid: Mid‑State Mechanical & Electrical), with Siemens listed for controls and automation.

Administrators said the MMS track project is intended to restore a usable walking/athletic surface (not convert to an all‑weather track) and the current walking path measures about 7 feet in places and would be widened to approximately 14 feet. For the Broad Street kitchen sewer work, administration said the capital reserve fund would pay the cost and the work is scheduled for this summer; Barry Isett’s fees are for specialized design and mapping. On the Upper Allen RTU project staff noted the district is executing a multi‑year cycle of rooftop replacements and had previously received state grant assistance for a middle‑school project.

Each item was recommended to be moved forward for vote at a subsequent board meeting; no formal adoption or contract awards were made at the committee meeting.

Speakers quoted: On the Broad Street project administration said, "The low bidder on this is Triad Excavating who actually did the main line in the building last summer," and regarding the track, a presenter said, "the low bid there was Macmore Construction... This should be a quick and easy project."
