The Calabasas City Council heard details June 25 about a transition of its Dial‑A‑Ride and microtransit pilot into a permanent, app‑based microtransit service under contract with Via, funded with LA Metro local return dollars.
Staff described the program’s evolution from a phone‑based Dial‑A‑Ride and an underused weekend trolley into a combined, app‑driven microtransit service intended to be easier for riders to use. City staff confirmed that contract funds come from LA Metro local return money, not the city general fund, and that the service preserves weekend door‑to‑door rides with an app interface and real‑time booking.
Staff said the contract award moves the program from pilot to permanent status and that the app and service will go live approximately 12 weeks after final contract signing. The council also confirmed the updated seasonal trolley schedule (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.) and that the service remains free to users.
The council approved the consent calendar, which included the contract, by voice vote.
