Board advances first readings of revised medication and vaping policies; second readings set for Dec. 9

At the Nov. 25 work session the Mechanicsburg Area School District board received first readings of several revised policies: Policy 210 (use of medications), Policy 222 (tobacco and vaping products) and Policy 323 (tobacco and vaping products). Administration described updates that clarify definitions, delegation of responsibilities for medication administration (including on field trips) and modernize vaping language to cover a broader set of products beyond specific brand names.
Dr. Pitz noted that the revisions were reviewed in collaboration with district nurses, and that the PSBA sample language was used to standardize definitions and procedures. Board members asked clarifying questions and moved both policy items to a second reading on Dec. 9.
No formal board action to adopt the policies occurred at the Nov. 25 meeting; staff will return at the second reading with any necessary final edits.
