An emailed response from Ms. McClain, relayed to the board, stated the girls-wrestling program “is sustainable through the MPC and through the Mid‑Penn Conference and state with plenty of competition and feeder programs from junior high through the elementary level” and added that the move would “increase our opportunities for female participation as a full varsity sport,” referencing Title IX considerations.
Board members pressed on precedent and sustainability for new sports, noting past examples (e.g., swimming) where participation ebbed. Staff said junior‑high baseball had sufficient participation and that separate coaches would likely be budgeted where needed; for girls wrestling, staff stated a coach is in place and practices may coordinate with external wrestling clubs.
