Mechanicsburg marching band celebrated after state championship; students and director praised

The Mechanicsburg Area School District board recognized the high‑school marching band on Nov. 25 after the ensemble won the Pennsylvania State Championships (Group 5 Open) and received awards for best visual, best music, best overall effect and best percussion.
"This team here, Mechanicsburg marching band formed the Pennsylvania State Championships ... they took home the state championship," said band director Benjamin Goldboro, who credited months and years of work and the many adults who support the program.
Three student leaders—Elena Moore House, William Kaufman and Ian Brookmeire—spoke about the band as a place to build friendships, leadership and life skills. "Marching band has just really given me a place to come back to over and over," Elena said, describing the program as central to her personal growth.
Board members and parents praised the students and staff, noting the program's role in community building and thanking families for time and commitment. The board presented small tokens of recognition to students and staff and thanked the directors and volunteers who supported the season.
The recognition did not involve board action beyond ceremonial acknowledgement; administrators and board members said they intend to continue supporting the program and to highlight the activity as part of district extracurricular offerings.
