Porter County allocates $40,000 in opioid-settlement funds to buy AEDs for SaveHeart initiative

Porter County commissioners on March 10 approved a $40,000 allocation from opioid-settlement funds to buy automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for the SaveHeart initiative.
Commissioner Barb Regnitz described the approval as funding for new AED machines; Commissioner Jim Biggs said $20,000 will come from the Commissioners and $20,000 from the Health Department. The machines are slated for installation at the Expo and Sunset Hill.
The board voted to approve the AED purchases during the commissioners’ agenda; no public comment on the item was recorded.
Commissioners recorded the approval as a motion that carried, and directed staff to implement the procurement with the Health Department as the co-funder.
