At the April 14 meeting the Pencrest School District presented multiple curricular updates and recommended a six-year renewal of the SAVIS ELA curriculum.
Mrs. Phely, reporting for the education department, said the six-year renewal of the SAVIS ELA program would save the district an estimated $264,772 over the contract’s life and that PVAAS/PSSA growth data showed strong gains at multiple grade levels. She said the district plans a multi-year adoption to align with new state expectations for structured literacy beginning in 2027–28 and that SAVIS is on the state-accepted list for that requirement. "All three of our high schools are in the blue showing growth..." she said, citing growth-band metrics.
The board was also advised of additions and adjustments to the program of studies: financial literacy and global science courses for high school, Latin honors language, cursive instruction for elementary grades, and updates to health and special‑ed course alignments. District staff said some older textbooks will be removed because they are outdated and not in current use; the board asked staff to confirm reasons and retention possibilities for older materials.
Several student travel requests and speaker engagements were announced, and the board was asked to approve routine consent items tied to the education report. The SAVIS renewal and program-of-studies changes were presented for approval on the board’s agenda.
