Dubois County approves striping contracts, advertises 2026 paving and updates bridge closures

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on April 20 approved contracts for road‑striping materials and advanced plans for the county’s 2026 paving and bridge work. Highway Engineer Levi Leffert recommended awarding the low bid for yellow and white paint to Ennis‑Flint, Inc., and the low bid for glass beads to Potters Industries; the board approved the recommendation by unanimous vote.
Leffert said the county plans to paint about 72 miles of road this year and requested purchases that include 2,420 gallons of yellow paint, 220 gallons of white paint and about four tons (8,000 pounds) of glass beads. The county also advertised six in‑house paving projects on 12 road sections totaling 10.13 miles; bids will be opened and read aloud at the commissioners’ meeting on May 4, 2026, with paving scheduled to begin no earlier than June 1 and to finish by Sept. 30.
Leffert provided updates on bridge work across the county. Bridge 78 (CR 600W over the Patoka River) closed April 9 for work that is expected to last up to 60 days with reopening anticipated in early to mid‑June. Deck overlay projects on Bridge 107 (St. Anthony Road N) and Bridge 240 (St. Anthony Road W) are slated to begin on or about May 7; both will require full closures of four to five weeks and will be closed simultaneously to reduce costs and impacts. Bridge 119 on Club Road is currently ahead of schedule and expected to reopen by the end of the week.
Leffert also noted the INDOT SR 64/162 (Bretzville Junction) roundabout contract was awarded to Ragle at the April 15 bid letting, with construction expected to begin this summer and finish by the end of 2026. He said the county submitted an RFP on a federally funded guardrail safety improvement project and will score letters of interest to select a consultant; a contract must be in place by Aug. 1, 2026.
The board’s actions advance procurement and construction for resurfacing and safety projects countywide. Commissioners said they expect contractors and third‑party engineers to coordinate with the county to limit closures and notify affected residents and school bus operators.
