Ken Saraw, the county's general services director, told the board the county had budgeted roughly $400,000 for a server refresh projected for fiscal year 2026-27, but recent vendor guidance and a global memory shortage could drive prices much higher within days. "As of tomorrow, the same hardware is gonna be $567,000," Saraw said, explaining staff accelerated the purchase to avoid an expected 40% price jump that could rise further by July.
Saraw said funding is available in the IT cost center and that the purchase should have minimal impact on the general fund. The board approved the recommended action by unanimous roll call.
Board members praised staff's readiness and noted uncertainty in hardware markets tied to AI demand. The approved solution is intended to last at least five years, Saraw added. County staff will add the server platform to the IT capital asset listing and report as required under the budget and procurement policies.
