Red Bluff sales-tax receipts dip in third quarter 2025, city staff report

City finance staff presented the third-quarter sales-tax report on March 3, covering amounts collected July through September 2025 and dispersed to the city later in the year.
The consultant's report attached to the staff memo noted that receipts in Red Bluff were 1.3% below the same quarter in 2024. "Excluding adjustments, receipts decreased 9% for the same quarter in the prior year," staff said. With the exception of building-and-construction and business-and-industry categories, most sales-tax categories were down for the quarter, the report said.
The city's budgeted annual sales-tax amount for the current year was approximately $6.13 million; consultant projections trimmed the year estimate modestly (staff said the current projection is about $46,000 lower than budget). Finance staff also noted they received the final payment for 2025 last week, which was about $12,000 more than budgeted for that payment.
Staff made no policy recommendations at the meeting and council had no questions. The report will remain in the financial record for budget planning and future forecasting.
