Sutter County joins 25‑county regional jail medical‑care study; board approves MOU

Sutter County supervisors on March 24 authorized a memorandum of understanding with the Golden State Finance Authority to participate in a regional feasibility study examining jail medical care delivery models.
Matt Robertson, representing the county administrator's office, said the study will collect data across participating counties and examine options including county‑run models, contracted services, and potential regional partnerships to identify cost savings and liability changes. Robertson noted Sutter County spent more than $4 million last fiscal year on jail medical service contracts and that rural and midsize counties face the greatest challenges in securing affordable correctional health services.
The MOU limits Sutter County’s contribution to an amount not to exceed $39,520.43, with half the cost charged to the current fiscal year and the remainder to the following fiscal year. Robertson said the county’s participation does not bind it to adopt any particular delivery model; the consultant will present results to the region for future decision‑making.
Supervisors approved the MOU and authorized the chair to sign on a unanimous roll call.
