The Moorpark City Council approved plans to use a $225,000 Ventura County Transportation Commission REAP2 grant to build an improved bus shelter on High Street, consolidate three existing stops and add amenities intended to increase rider comfort and safety.
Staff said the project will fabricate and install a shelter similar in style to the Metrolink station shelter, build a reinforced concrete bus pad, install bench seating and trash receptacles, and add red brick pavers to match High Street aesthetics. The project consolidates three stops into a single improved location and is intended to better serve four transit services that stop on High Street.
Council members discussed tradeoffs of street parking and the possibility of routing riders to the Metrolink parking lot in the future, but staff said the grant requires improvements at existing transit stops and that the selected location minimizes conflicts with private driveways and utilities. A staff member noted that consolidating the three stops will free on‑street parking where feasible and that the shelter was sited to avoid obstructing future development options for the adjacent city property.
Council authorized staff to advertise construction bids and accept the grant project; staff will manage the procurement and construction schedule under the grant’s timeline.
