Forks council approves grant applications and contracts for Quillayute Airport hangar and runway work

Mayor Tim Fletcher introduced Melanie Johansen from Century West Engineering, who appeared via Zoom to answer questions about grant funding and engineering costs for the Hangar/Terminal project. The council authorized staff to apply for $113,000 in IIJA funding for the Quillayute Airport Hangar/Terminal Project and approved a contract with Century West Engineering Corporation for the design phase.
Separately, council authorized applying for FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding for a runway rehabilitation project. The council approved a design contract addendum allowing Century West to complete the Phase 1 design scope, authorized Century West to provide construction management for Phase 2, and authorized the mayor and staff to enter into a construction contract with Western United Civil Group for Phase 2. Motions were moved and seconded by council members (recorded as carried) and provide authorization for staff to proceed with grant applications and contracting.
Next steps: Staff will pursue the IIJA and FAA AIP grant opportunities, finalize design work through Century West, and begin Phase 2 construction procurement and contracting with Western United Civil Group as authorized by the council.
