CMS to publish provider‑directory datasets and live Blue Button endpoint to surface near‑real‑time claims

Anthony from the Blue Button team described a new Blue Button IAS endpoint that allows authorized apps to surface pre‑adjudicated claims and other near‑real‑time information through CMS aligned networks. The team said this capability aims to give apps and providers earlier situational awareness of patients' care trajectories, which can support earlier follow‑up and care coordination. Identity and verification flows demonstrated
Leslie Wilson walked through the modern identity options on Medicare.gov (id.me, CLEAR, login.gov) and explained how identity verification maps to IAL2/AAL2 flows used by aligned networks. Several vendor demos then showed beneficiaries verifying identity with CLEAR or id.me, generating a smart health link (QR), and having providers ingest a PDF or FHIR summary directly into the EHR at check‑in. Regulatory and security note

Implication for providers and app builders
CMS' directory publication and the Blue Button IAS endpoint are intended to reduce friction for provider discovery, identity matching, and patient‑meditated record retrieval. Vendors at the session said those building patient apps, EHRs and payer integrations should expect to use standards‑based FHIR data and IAL2 identity flows to connect to CMS aligned networks. Practical implementation timelines and production targets were discussed as “coming soon” with additional rollouts expected before July.
