Perryton ISD to propose policy allowing fifth graders to earn credit for completing dual-language program

Instruction staff told the Perryton ISD board the district will present a policy next month to allow fifth graders who complete the dual-language program to earn course credit.
The staff member said this is the district's first year with fifth graders completing the dual program and asked trustees to review emergent bilingual information included in the packet ahead of a formal policy recommendation. "We'll be bringing next month a policy to look at that where they can earn the credit for making it all the way through dual language," the instruction representative said.
The board did not take action at the meeting; staff said the policy will be brought back next month for review and possible adoption. Instruction staff also noted the district is entering testing season and that administrators are monitoring preparations across campuses.
