Perryton ISD keeps existing emergency alert system after TEA approves intruder-audit corrective actions

The Perryton ISD director of communications and safety told the board the Texas Education Agency approved the district's corrective actions from a recent intruder detection audit and that the district will retain its current emergency alert system after reviewing competing quotes.
"Those were actually approved by TEA," the communications and safety director said of the corrective actions; the board was told the audit follow-ups meet TEA expectations. Staff also presented competing price quotes for an alert system, telling trustees the difference was substantial — an $8,000 estimate compared with a $223,000 quote — and that the board will remain with the current emergency alert vendor because of the price gap.
The communications and safety report did not include technical specification differences in the packet; staff said the cost difference drove the decision. The board was not asked to take an immediate vote on system replacement and staff told trustees they would continue using the existing alert system while monitoring options.
The board also heard that TEA has formally approved the district's corrective steps tied to the intruder detection audit; staff framed this as a compliance milestone required by the agency.
