Roofing contractor pitches long-term asset-management approach to district

A TMCO representative told the Elizabethtown Area School District board April 14 that a proactive maintenance and restoration program can significantly extend roof life and reduce large replacement costs.
Mike Cromwell, who identified himself as a TMCO presenter, described infrared surveys and restoration workflows that distinguish roofs needing maintenance, restoration or replacement. He cautioned that neglect leads to escalating replacement costs and said preventative maintenance can extend service life “30 to 100%,” citing examples and historical cost comparisons.
Board members questioned whether TMCO was being proposed as a sole provider and emphasized the district’s practice of seeking multiple bids. Administration described the presentation as an introduction; TMCO will return in May with diagnostic results (infrared ‘x-rays’) for the district’s buildings so the district and board can compare options. The board also discussed coordinating any roofing work with the planned high-school construction and with architects (RLPS) to avoid conflicts.
No contract was approved at the workshop. Administration said they will collect additional data and present comparative bids and budget implications at a future meeting.
